sponsor
Got a question.. I just met an AA lady for coffee, and when I told her who my sponsor was she told me to 'be aware' cos she can be bonkers. I'm doubting myself now. But the last I met has had 12 sponsors in 10 years, should I take what she says with a pinch of salt?
I take everything everyone says to me with a grain of salt.
I listen to my own inner voice, God, Higher Power, whatever you want to call it. No one else is above that. That faith is what keeps me in relationship with some people and not with others.
Have you read the AA brochure about what a sponsor is supposed to be? You can find it on AA's website.

I suggest you read AAWS pamphlet 'Questions and Answers on Sponsorship'

Can you be bonkers AND restored to sanity at the same time? Hmm.
My sponsor was a guide through the steps. I wanted what she had. She was genuinely serene and happy. She was probably a little off her rocker, but that was irrelevant. I needed a solution and I needed it immediately.

Can she help guide you through those 12 steps?
Has she had a spiritual awakening as a result of working those steps?
Is she kind enough to tell you how it is? Let you know if your whining is feeding your ego?
Does she have a well rounded life?
Is she serene, kind, and being consistent with her behavior inside and outside the rooms of AA?
Are there other things you need to know?
You can interview her and work with her and let the gossip be a gossip for now.
Everyone's a bit bonkers in their own way. You can try to work with this lady and if it doesn't work, find another sponsor to work with.
Alcoholic death or spiritual way of life?

Over the years Ive had a many many
sponsors that never actually knew they
were, but were my guiding light paving
the way for me thru recovery with every
step they took, with every ESH, experience,
strength and hope they shared about
themselves before, during and after alcohol.
I chose one Sponsor, my first, original
sponsor when I was in rehab, when she
came to get me from rehab and take me
to my first outside meetings. This was
her Service Work in helping the newcomer
which was me.
She had everything I wanted in recovery
as she gently guided me with her actions.
Whatever was passed on to her from her
own sponsor and the sponsors before that
was passed on to me. From grandsponsor,
to my own sponsor, then to me. A generation
of sponsors leading, guiding and following.
My journey began 24 yrs ago and continues
on today passing own my own ESH here in
SR. A newer technology from back in the day
of helping members just beginning their own
journey.
Im grateful to have many sponsors here in
SR continueing to guide me as well as me
guiding them. Guiding YOU.
