Slowly coming along.
Morning.
Just wanted to stop in and say hey, and let you all know I'm doing ok. I managed to see a doctor, I'm not as terrible off as I thought I would be, blood pressure is high, and I'm in pretty horrible shape physically, but the doc feels confident if I change up my habits and lose some weight, I should be a lot healthier.
I spoke with my wife a bit, didn't get too down and detailed, but let her know I was struggling on my own and had a problem with alcohol and wanted to get some extra help. She took it well and was supportive. I have an appointment for next Monday with a therapist who also works with addiction. Kinda nervous but looking forward to it.
I haven't drank. Today is day 5. When I make it to tomorrow, it'll be the longest I've gone without a drink in well over a year, probably closer to 2 years. Feeling proud of myself, and determined to see this through this time. No more floundering about. I can do this.
I have had a wicked sweet tooth the last few days. Chocolate, cakes, ice cream, I've been craving all of it so badly. I've crave booze a few times, but jumped in the shower or brushed my teeth and that helped, also been rereading my posts when I'm craving and it then makes my stomach churn and think holy hell why would I want that poison in me.
I won't drink today. Happy New Year everyone. Thanks for the support.

Great job on seeking help and telling your wife will--
I had a bad sweet tooth as well when I quit, which I think is because alcohol metabolizes as sugar so it is quick energy.
Embrace that for now if you have serious cravings.
Many of us swear by ice cream for this reason.
You can do this and you will feel so much better and happier soon.
Happy New Year to you and your family!

Hi.
Congratulations with your 5 days.
It’s suggested at this point to drink sugar based drinks and eat sugar goodies because the body misses all the sugar we got from drinking.
When I first stopped I would have a soda or two particularly during the part of the day I normally drank. Every little trick helps us stay sober one day at a time in a row.
BE WELL

Awesome , you can do this, stick to your guns and just keep kicking that AV to the curb, starve it out and it will wither and die.

Thanks all I'm really trying this time. I'm putting everything I have into staying alcohol free. Also, guess I should have been more clear, I don't have 5 days yet, today will be 5 days. I have 4 full days sober, I know I won't drink today, but still don't wanna count my chickens before they hatch, ya know? Anyway, thanks again for all the support and not giving up me.
