Day 6! But it's only just beginning..
This is my sixth day without alcohol. I had my last drink on the evening of the 16th. Not very much, but at this point, one drop is too much. So I went to the ER later on, sobered up there and was admitted into detox just as midnight hit.
I don't know whether or not it counts when I'm in a hospital setting, and therefore couldn't really have a drink even if I wanted one. Plus I was helped through the withdrawal with medications. I only got home about an hour ago. But I'm sober and safe right now. The cravings are immense, and I wish I hadn't forgotten to ask about naltrexone or something similar. But I am more committed than the last few times I've quit.
Now comes the true test. I'm on my own for the next few days, before I enter into an outpatient program (an IOP, basically). I've mentioned on here about how my insurance won't cover residential rehab, but I've been assured by a social worker and most importantly my new psychiatrist that they'll look into working something out. I've never really tried aftercare following detox, always succumbed to PAWS immediately, etc. Now I have some structure and I'm in better spirits than before. I owe much of that to you guys as well, for being such a support.
