Alcohol and Fatigue
Hi everyone
Well I've had a few posts here...
Recently (the past month or two) one thing that's bothering me is I seem to be needing more sleep than I used to...
Sometimes around 10 hours a night.
Is this a 'side effect' of drinking? I used to drink half a bottle of vodka per night (35 cl)... But this has increased to 3/4+ of a ten glass per night. I do not drink during the day...
I'm only 21 so a bit concerned...

The body is not invincible and half a bottle is a lot of alcohol each night, sooner or later the body will need more time to recover and bounce back from the abuse it's taking.
Sleep is the bodies main tool for healing and repair!!
It might be time to re consider your drinking?!!

It's a well known fact that alcohol impedes sleep. You may be in bed for 10 hours but you are not getting the type of sleep you need.
That's why you are waking up tired. Alcoholics also generally tend to suffer sleep apnea more commonly than non-alkies.
Unfortunately it does not get easier with age. Take it from me, I was your age when I started serious drinking and wasted many productive years in bed sleeping off hangovers instead of enjoying life.

When I was drinking heavily the only time I ever slept for a few hours without interruption was when I drank a HELL of a lot, like a litre of vodka in a few hours.
Generally I was lucky to get 2 hours a night.
Now I've been clean for 36 days and by about 9pm i'm ready for bed.
I fall asleep much quicker than ever before, wake at about 12 to pee, go back to sleep and wake at about 5am.
Then I struggle to go back to sleep and end up getting up early.
Still not a great sleeping pattern but much better than it was!
But overall, drinking heavily and quitting all effects your sleep in some way. I haven't slept well/properly in about 12 years.
