Freaking out

I missed a meeting. Stayed home while fam went out especially so i could go to meeting, then missed it. Feeling awful.

Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it’s not going to be fired, it shouldn’t be hanging there.

Anton Chekov

If you place a gun in your first act, it should go off in the next. Every element should fit into the story, or its presence there is deceitful. I realise, since the beginning of this “story”, I have figured a relapse into it. And it’s making me nervous now.

There’s a meeting at 8 but I’m in London and I’m not sure when everyone will be back. I hate having to account for my absences. This, though, is what it will be like when I move back here. I’ll be jobless, have no money to go out and no reason to. I won’t have people to bump into in the library, or go for coffee with. I won’t have that support. That period, that little absence, is when I will relapse.

Can you scratch a gun out of a story?

If you say, "I will relapse.", You are the one writing your own story.

So why not re-write it with the word "not" in there somewhere?

We all get to write the script from here on in . . . in the past the endless cycle of drinking and hangovers almost seemed inevitable and that our fate had already been decided.

But the day we dug deep and built up enough courage to take a leap of faith into the unknown was the day we gained back the control of our own lives to decide what the ending of this new chapter looks like!!

You can always take out your red pen and edit that scene out of your story. A relapse is not inevitable.

You can choose to avoid the triggers the might cause a relapse.

Stick around here and read and be inspired. Relapse is not necessary.

No. You really need to allow this desire to pass, which it will. And it will make the next time easier, as you'll be stronger and you'll have this time as a reference. Picking up a drink means you'll have to go through this all over again one day. I always thought it best to just deal with it when it was there, and never have to repeat it. It DOES pass. It doesn't feel like you're feeling now, forever.

One of the things my sponsor had me do when I was dying for a drink one night was think it through, in great detail. He asked me to tell him exactly what I wanted to do, what I wanted to drink, how that would feel, where I would go, and to tell him, in detail, the best case scenario I could imagine. Then he asked me what I really thought would happen. And then he told me to think through to going to bed, and waking up next morning. He asked then, how did I feel.

He also asked how I'd feel the next morning if I didn't drink.

Also, while it's not the best suggestion, or habit to get into, a huge ice cream sunday used to do the trick for me too in early sobriety. Takes the edge of the desire for sure.

Prayer helped me a lot too.

That's the best I have to offer right now. Hang in there.

It's okay, You can make another meeting when you are able to. Don't beat yourself up. Listen to speakers online. Get books. Do whatever you've got to do to stay sober.

if you're the one writing the story, yes, of course you can.

you can also write the story where "need" a drink doesn't compute.
need and want are not the same.

you might get some use out of this: http://lifering.org/wp-content/uploa...elapseCh11.pdf
(i esp. like the "termites" list in part six.)

keep going and it will change.
