Anyone else lose their libido when getting sober?

Hi everyone,

I'm almost 2 months sober but my sex drive has completely flatlined....it was strong a few years ago, it was low during my alcoholism. I read that this is not uncommon in early sobriety, but being a male in my mid twenties I am worried that this might be a permanent change caused by abusing alcohol everyday.

Did anyone have the same issue? If you did when did it come back? Thanks in advance.

I cant really remember, I was more focused on being and staying sober at the time rather then getting laid. I had to change the way I thought, and getting laid all the time was one of the thought patterns I had to change in a quick way because I found I got drunk a lot when it came to sex and relationships. I had many resentments.

I think this is fairly common, I've been told by a drug counsellor that it's to be expected but I guess it's different for everyone. My libido has taken a nose dive since my drinking escalated but before my mental health stuff was addressed, I actually went to a doctor about it and it was due to my depression. One thing I did find tricky when I stopped drinking before was having the confidence to actually initiate sex, it was easier when I was drunk, however infrequently it happened!
I'm going to sound really cheesy but there's a book I read that was a bit trippy but all about intimacy and connections and it helped me a lot. I can find the title and author out for you.

If you're worried there's no harm getting it checked out :-)

Our bodies are healing in a major way. Mine came back at about 4-5 months.

If you are in your mid twenties I think it's probably reasonable to expect it to come back in a big big way.

One of the benefits of sobriety is definitely that.

It's weird at first. The intimacy is so.... Intimate. There no drunken fumbling, and you remember everything. But it's way better.
