Day 40 feel tired, depressed
Hi everyone, I'm day 40 sober and I don't feel very good. I feel tired, depressed, brain fog, as if the life has been sucked out of me. Some days I don't even want to talk, can't keep up a conversation with anyone.
How long will it take for this to pass? It seems like I have been sober forever!

It takes different times for different people and it depends on a few things. What is your life like, what are you doing for recovery, etc. it does pass though. Congrats on your 40 days!

I'm not doing a lot! LOL, I'm walking my dog an hour a day, sleeping a lot, no real stress in my life because I'm unemployed at the minute. Drinking plenty of water, eating healthily.
Basically I'm just waiting it out.

Also I remember going a week without alcohol last year and I felt, depressed, exhausted, it was when I did drink again all these symptoms disappeared, full of energy etc.
So I know its the alcohol withdrawal causing this.

I think you should fill your life with things you love to do. If you get busy theres not a lot of time to dwell on the hard stressful things in life.
Congrats on 40 days! That's such an accomplishment.
Stay positive, no matter how hard things get or how bad you feel its better than a hangover and guilt that comes with it.

I'm at about 110 days and I started to notice an uptick in energy right about the 90 day point. What you're going through is nothing out of the ordinary. I still have days where I feel groggy and depressed. One thing I tell myself as motivation: if I drink again, I will inevitably have to go through the first 90 days all over again. It would be like choosing to have mono for 3 months again.

Thanks tom, your right about only going through this the once! 3 months will be my goal from now on.
Its frustrating because when I quit alcohol years ago I felt great after 2 weeks! Heavier you drink the longer it takes to return to normal, I have got to keep telling meself this is normal, I will just exist for awhile.

Congratulations on your 40 days.
At 275 days I am presently travelling pretty well.
I let the good times roll, but it is irrational not to expect some down time.
In those bad old drunken days I often felt poor to horrendous!
We cannot be permanently happy and our alcoholism failed miserably.
These days I turn to my Higher Power relevant to the good, bad, and mediocre.....

I hope you're right about the 90 days.
I'm sure it has alot to do with weather and business being slow, but I get mild headaches and feel kinda achy all over. Never really feel energetic lately, either.
And I also feel like I put on weight, my eating habits haven't changed really, so why am I not losing it?
Could be mental...
All I know is somethings gotta give.... I've been saying that alot lately!!

I am 38 days and aching, sore throat, feel mentally and physically drained.
I feel like I'm coming down with flu. I feel like absolute crap, short tempered, annoyed, angry, no patience and restless.
Good to get that off my chest. It will pass I am told!

Hi, hope you feel better soon. Someone told me when I quit drinking to treat it like I have the flu and baby myself a little. It will pass. I am at 7 months and feeling pretty good. Hang in there, it will get better.

Thanks guys, I feel better today, it comes in waves, I feel OK for a few days, then horrible for a few days, but its still better than the hungover feeling I used to get.
I drank around 8 pints of beer, 3 to 4 times aweek for around 8 years, then that amount everyday for the last 2 years, its going to take time to feel normal.

I'm experiencing the same thing. Feel good one day than like crap the next day.
Brain fog and insomnia have been a constant. A good diet and lots of reading have helped. I feel very fortunate to have found this site.
I will stay the course.
