My Decision to Home Detox

I have the blessing of my doctor to go ahead and do a home detox with the aid of a benzodiazapene medication. I'm 14 hours in and haven't felt any discomfort, but I know the insomnia and anxiety is going to come on tonight. That's why I always have a hard time going 25 hours without a drink.
I've had extended periods of sobriety up to four months with participation in the AA program, but have not attempted sobriety in several years.

Typically i drink about a 12 pack a day, for close to a year, as reference.

Good on you for seeing a doctor before attempting this.

Best of luck.

For me getting sober this last time was enough for me to keep sober now. Once you get through the first few weeks - it does get easier. I never thought I'd be 4 months without a drink - but here I am. For me, sober life is becoming more of the norm and I don't miss it at all, although at the time, I felt like I would have given up 10 years of my life for a month of fun-time drinking. Unfortunately, it's not a "fun-time" for me, usually end up sick, missing work, bloated, starting fights, etc. etc. Might I suggest trying to stay physically busy during this time of detox, if you can (short walks, light cleaning, grocery shopping) it really helped me through the anxiety.

Good luck with the home detox, and don't be afraid to get help of you need it!

As for the insomnia... Just remember you don't die from insomnia! It will pass!
