I watched this when it was first broadcast. It is a documentary featuring drug users (alcohol included) from the UK with health problems. No footage of drug users without health problems was shown.

My thoughts on the UK drug situation:

If drugs were regulated and available freely, the "cool" factor of taking them would be deminished (see Holland's drug use stats vs the UK).

The damaging effects of impurities formed via production in clandestine labs would no longer affect peoples health.

dancesafe.org will show you some shocking contents of 'pills' submitted for analysis. Almost always they contain chemicals other than MDMA.

Ketamine should be uprated from class C (in the UK) to Class B/A, due to it's potential for harm.

The classification of Psilocybin mushrooms to a class A drug (2005) should be reversed. As far as I can see, the reason for the reclassification was that people often picked the "wrong" mushrooms and poisoned themselves.

Regulation, as I outlined above, would remove this danger.

I apollogise if this seems slightly off topic for a SR thread, but the documentary covers a wide range of drugs.

Finally, I think that young people should be able to experiment in safety.
Regulation rater than classifying use as an illegal act could provide this.

If I'd carried on my binges I'm sure I could've ended up like the young man toward the end who had a liver transplant. Although I've read an article on him since and his consumption was quite astounding. Something to the tune of a bottle of vodka and 16 cans of lager on a standard night out. Scary stuff! What I like about the documentary is that the filmmaker, Cherry, clearly had the viewpoint before filming that alcohol was something fairly benign but after meeting the young people and hearing of the damage done, she seemed genuinely shocked. Just goes to show that most normal drinkers are quite oblivious to the extent of the damage that alcohol can cause, especially to people so young. Thanks for posting!

It's a sad culture . End of story. Mass media manipulating young minds. You only have to look at the "best loved" soaps and see them at the bar every night! Not one has a drink problem? Or the heavy carnage is no where to be seen that I'd see in a pub. I dunno it's only my two cents but to me, it's ****** up .
Nf I heavy support your argument on the legalisation of drugs . Maybe the government will one day realise it does make some sence.
Peace
