I couldn't could drinking with my own will-power; but I had to be willing to change. This meant a willingness to listen and apply new ideas and tools to help with my recovery. There is no magical solution to recovery, it's a combination of many little things that help you stay sober a day at a time.
Just remember:
Be Willing =
Open to new ideas/thoughts =
apply these new ideas/thoughts in your life =
Best chance to stay Sober Today

I agree that willingness is one of the keys.
For most of my adult life I was not teachable. Even a new task at work I had a certain "Well, I know that" or "Lets move on, I already understand" that went on in my head. I was so convinced of my own knowledge that new information was dismissed.
Because of this attitude I rarely asked a question much less asked for help. Today I have no problem asking my sponsor a question or asking others for help. In a way admitting I needed help is also part of recovery.
Coming to terms with the fact I don't know everything indicates I am teachable.
