Is being sober underrated?

That's a very subjective determination.
One of the most heartbreaking occurrences is when people get sober in their 40s, 50s and 60s, only to realize that the rest of the world has moved on without them. Unless you own a time machine, there's no way to get back all the years you've lost to drinking.
If losing or coming close to losing everything that's dear to you is no longer a viable option, then yes, sobriety might just be underrated.

I think it depends on what you do with it. Lots of people are sober and miserable, not drinking isn't enough to make life dandy.
Getting and staying sober is the only way I have a decent shot at a life I want to live, so for me it's essential to not drink, at all, ever. But I could do that and still mess my life up royally if I choose to.

Well, I have 229 days today - Nov 13 2012 in my sobriety date - and I gotta tell you, I'm having a blast being sober! The first 3-4 months were very tuff, but then I started coming out of it. And now I am healthy and strong again, I laugh and joke again. I'm building relationships again. I'm having a blast. I love the reprieve I have been given. A second chance on life after 2 and a half decades of heavy drinking. We don't need to use to have a great time. I guess that says it for me.
