Simple joys of sobriety...
I am a little over a month sober. I honestly don't really know what is so different this time, other than some new means of support. But I have to say I love finding little surprising things that I never even thought of when I was drinking.
For example: Taking out the trash. I am no longer mortified taking out the trash that sounds like I have had a New Year's Eve party all week. No more multiple garbage bags full of clinking bottles!
And related, I no longer scramble to hide a bunch of empties when people come over to visit.
Feel free to add your own little joys to the thread!

What new means of support do you have now that is working so well?
All the best.

I have been seeing a holistic "doctor". Not sure what her exact title is. I was very skeptical, but I have never had an easier time staying sober, like, ever. Or at least since I was 18 or 19.

Just the sound of birds.
I live opposite a park which is full of trees. I work from home one day a week. I now sit with the door open listening to the birds sing all day.
It used to really annoy me when I had a hangover. Now I love it.

My dumpster is literally right across the street. When I was drinking I would take out my empties late at night past 12. I would be sweating the whole time. I couldn't make it to the dumpster without a light turning on at the old couple across the street. My clinking bottles would wake them up and they would be so nosy as to watch me throw out my bottles. Soon after I started scoping out other dumpsters to throw out all the beer bottles. I think many an alcoholic blew their cover because of clinking bottles
On day 4 now, starting anew, and put 2 big trash bags, from the last 2 weeks, out last eve for today's pick up...so they" be sitting right next to my alleyway for all who walk or drive by to see,,,what're you gonna' do ? Now I remember the 5 weeks I had, several weeks ago, not having to feel ashamed, watched, or judged that I had tons of empty beer cans out in the trash, the noise of rattling empties. Another plus was not having to be so foggy, uptight, and apologetic, in general.
Not being in a rush to get back home on Friday or Saturday evenings, just so I could tie one on...now I can do things with my wife and daughter without the monkey on my back demanding that I get home & start in on the drinking.
I was gonna say birds too, but as you
read up top, slimjim30 beat me to it...
Honestly, I do love my birds that come
to my home and feed upon all the seeds
we leave them to dine on daily. Bird baths
filled with cool water to quench their little
throats. Down here in the south, we have
little Hummingbirds starting to appear fluttering
to my pretty red nectar filled feeders for them
to perch on as we delight in watching their
little heads bob up and down. Soooo Cute..!!!!
When ever im out and about, I always look
to the telephone wires stretching for miles,
often seeing a group of birds perched up high,
reminding me of the saying I learned early on
about where two or more are gathered is considered
a meeting. Or, if more are gathered , then to me
it's a committee meeting and if there's a ton more
then it looks like an AA Convention.
I smile where ever I am when I see birds gathered
together and keep recovery fresh in my mind.
