A new trick I wanted to share
So I'm still on the road after a couple weeks now, and have been looking for ways to get incentive to stay sober. Last week I started a system where every time I want to drink, I walk to the bank near me and take out cash. I then put the amount I would have spent (on 40s and a pint of hard liquor) and put it in an empty coffee container. Even after a mere week I have close to 80 bucks. at the end of March I'm going to put the money toward a new hobby.
I hope this helps.

Great motivation. You could put that $$$ toward either a hobby or a vacation. $80 a week, in a year's time you'd have saved up $4160!! I think that a "reward system" definitely helps the process move along. I've been treating myself to the occasional cigar.

I haven't kept exact tract, but my pocket savings is at least $600 per month. One six day cruise cost me over $500 just for the bar tab.
I like your strategy. You're not only saving money, but you're replacing the physical habit of going shopping for booze with one that's beneficial.

I have been thinking of doing something similar. I usually do not even want to think of how much money I have wasted on alcohol but maybe it will help me solidly come to terms with yet another reason to stay sober and hopefully a down payment on a house.
