It was my birthday, so I had a party....
This thread is not meant to fish for happy birthday compliments, it is meant to share a story..
Last year for my birthday, I didn't have a party. I didn't want a party, and my wife and children certainly didn't want to throw me one. I'm assuming this of course, because I can't really remember my birthday from last year. I was in the throws of a never ending cycle. Drink all weekend until I blacked out, and slog to work Monday morning and white-knuckle it until Thursday if I could make it that long.
Fast forward to this year. I'm almost 9 months sober, I remember things, I participate in things with my children. We had a huge party. All sorts of friends came. There was even a lot of alcohol. I didn't mind at all. I wasn't tempted at all either. The subject hardly came up, and the two times it did, I just said "I don't drink anymore, my off switch broke" and people accepted that. I had a great time, the kids had a great time, and my wife had a great time! I am really enjoying putting in the work of A.A. and reaping the rewards.

I have my 40th birthday in just over 2 weeks and am also 9 months sober. I have some great things planned and I won't be drinking either. I too am no longer a drinker.
I haven't used AA, but I am on the same journey.
What a difference to life being sober makes Again, fair play to you!!!!
