Happiness is not getting what you want, it's wanting what you've already got
Hi All,
I just found this site and I really wanted to say well done to all and how great this site is.
I'm just coming up to 11 months sober. The title of the thread is something I carry with me everyday. Strangely, I didn't read this in any AA or other fellowship book, nor any self help titles. It was a novel I was reading, having nohing to do with addiction in any form and the line jumped out at me. I was only a couple of weeks sober at the time and it's this kind of sign that shows to me the power of sobriety, clarity and serenity.
I had to go to a treatment centre as I didn't feel that I could accomplish stopping drink on my own, but I went with the greatest gift I have had, desperation. Without desperation, I don't think I would have listened to my peers and supporters throughout the whole sobering up period.
I cam to the fellowship to get sober but I keep going, not just to continue sobrety but to have a better life. The subject heading is something that I can definitely relate to and I have to remind myself everyday of how lucky I am to be alive and how truly grateful I am to be a part of it x
