Detox Question
First, I've been sober since 4/23/2012 But one thing I never did right when trying to quit before is get Medical help. I suffered through some tough withdrawals. What did others do ? I've red the sticky thread on the subject but I'm missing something. Did you go to a family doctor, an emergency room, a specialized facility?
As awful as it was, I wasn't in a state of mind to make good decisions. I've seen the advice a lot: go to a doctor. But I'm sure I wasn't the only one afraid of the consequences or that the doctor would even provide any help. The consequences might be issues with insurance or that others would know about The Problem.

Like you...I did not go to my doctore...it never occured to mee that
de toxing could be dangerous.
A friend who was expereinced with withdrawals did check on me often....by day 4 I was out of de tox mode
Then I connected to AA with excellent results...
Glad to know you are now sober...please keep moving forward..

When I was truly ready to quit, I went to a detox facility. At that point, I didn't care if I lost my job or would have insurance issues in the future or anything other than I was so sick and tired of drinking all the time. I was there for six days, and then went to IOP for another 6 weeks. I had to take medical leave from work, but I didn't care.
On the 6th of June, I will have 4 years sober. I haven't encountered any insurance issues and I still have my same job. My personal feeling is that when you are truly ready to embrace recovery, it will the the most important thing in your life, and you will do anything necessary to attain it.

I won't post the 'whole story' here again, lol but if you are interested you
can read here what happened to me:

So, consistently for almost 31 years now, I ALWAYS recommend that the
person wanting to quit (detox) either 1) contact their doctor, or 2) have
someone with them that can call 911 or get them to the ER.
Over the years here there have been many times when a woman, more
so than a man (don't know why that is), has walked into our local Alano
Club asking for help. Some of the other women and myself who have
pretty close contact with our local detox center will check to see if there
is a bed, and if there isn't one at the moment, and the person is serious,
we will take them into one of our homes and then at least 2 of us stay
with them at all times, until either 1) a bed is available at Detox, or 2)
we have to call 911 for an ambulance or take them to the ER ourselves.
Like what happened to Dee and to myself, one never knows which detox
will be the BAD one, so better to be SAFE than SORRY.
Detoxing from alcohol is DEADLY.
