Picked up wrong drink and almost relapsed
I picked up the wrong drink at a party and almost relapsed. As soon as the liquid hit my tongue, I knew it was alcohol and I was able to spit it back out. I just left the party. But I was wondering: in this situation, what would you do? My first instinct is to go straight to AA tomorrow morning. Do you think that is enough? I haven't tasted alcohol in 2.5 years and my body is shaking a tiny bit. Do you think that is enough, or is something else needed?

Welcome...
You did the correct thing by spitting it out quickly. Good for you!
Congratulations on your sober time.
I do attend AA... it's very supportive I hope you will check it out.

It is your motive that is important, people that take a drink deliberately after a period of sobriety have unsurrendered.Sobriety is not something you can turn on and off at will. Most people have a crisis in their life before seeking sobriety and those that drink again after a period of sobriety will usually have a rough time of it to regain their sobriety.
People I have seen in your situation don't relapse into active alcoholism.I believe in the big book it says there is the uncaring drink, the unthinking drink, and the deliberate drink.None apply here to you.
Cheers,Steve

What Wnslynn said. Accidents happen. My first Xmas I took a mouthful of wine by mistake, nearly died of fright. I went and drank heaps of water. No other ill effects, but it did make me more careful.

I don't hang out at parties where the booze is flowing so I can't identify how you can get drinks mixed up.
I was told early on to mind my own glass or drink as others don't care if I drink again and many will try to sabotage my sobriety.
I guess what comes to mind right now is "lead us not into temptation" .
Good lesson for us all here......
All the best.
