Here we go.

Hello.

Decided to join the forum today. I decided to quit drinking a few days ago. I just made it through my first 24hrs sober. Thankfully, my work has a substance abuse program that you can enroll in. This is strictly voluntary, but I finally broke down today and asked my HR rep for support. She was really sweet and helpful. I'm meeting with her again tomorrow at work to get more information. Then I will need to make the decision as to whether I think I can be an outpatient or if I need to take a leave of absence and be an inpatient.

Hope to make some friends here and find some support in this. Thanks for listening, everyone.

So glad you have work support! If my work found out, I'd have a big Scarlett letter on my shirt! You are lucky and blessed good luck!

Employers have a vested interest in their employee's health. A sober employee shows up and doesn't cause them problems.

But, they also don't want to help you out every 3/9 months. Try to make this stick.

You can do it! It's not as hard as it may seem.

Check out some AA meetings and let the people there know you're new and need help getting started. You'll be doing both a favor.
