Adrenaline Junkie's Story
I am an adrenaline junkie with alcohol problems. I have posted a few times but haven't really told the story.
I was in two different high stress jobs within the same company for over 27 years. 8 years in one, 19+ in the next. The adrenaline rush during work was great, but for the last 15 years of work, now retired, I needed to drink 3-4 units during the work week just to come to normal at night. It was worse on weekends, drinking basically all day.
Retirement has helped, going 2-3 days without a drink. Only thing is I would have pre-drinks, wine with dinner and then post-drinks when I went out. I would sneak drinks behind everyone's back if we didn't go out after the few days. I got caught and am starting day 11 without a drink.
I want to thank everyone on this site, it is the best thing I have found. I watched many co-workers try different types of meetings, only to go right back to where they were before in little to no time. So far just taking it hour by hour and staying away from my previous co-workers and not going out to dinner until I think I can handle it with a soda or water with my meal.
Again thanks all, I am finding lots of support and suggestions.
