stating my life without alchohol
I have been a person who felt that to have a good time I had to drink. I was always told by my “friends” that I was much more fun when I was drunk. I soon realized it was because they like to laugh at me when I was acting a fool. On 02/25/11 I decided I was not “drunk” and decided to drive to a friends house. I ended up getting pulled over and got a DUI. After that I realized I just had to stop drinking for my own good. I realized that I was not making smart choices. So that’s why I am here for support to reach my goal of being alcohol free.
WELCOME, Same here. Spent the night at the Court Ave. Hilton in a Party Suit in the drunk tank. What a "party", yep a real eye opener LOL. I kept drinking for two years after that. One of the hoops I had to jump through introduced me to AA so when the time came I at least had a starting point. What ever you choose to achieve your goal, your welcome here !!

What's your plan Romeo? Making a decision and logging on here is a start, now you need to think about the next step. Have you been drinking enough to experience withdrawal symptoms? You might want to start thinking about WHY you drink so much in the first place, and making a plan to deal with that. AA can help, so can various outpatient programs or counseling. Very difficult for most people to do it on their own.
Welcome to the forum! Drinking always catches up with us sooner or later...... and hopefully we catch it in time before something major happens. You may look back on this and be glad that it motivated you to do something about your drinking.
It takes courage to reach out for help - so well done on that! We understand what it's like, so hang around.....:ghug3

Welcome! Here's something that helped me in the beginning: avoid "people, places and things" that can trigger a desire to drink. I avoided bars, people I once drank with, got rid of wine glasses and all alcohol from my home.
I promise you it does get better .... It's a huge accomplishment to accept that you're an alcoholic, addicted to alcohol, whatever. I understood that yes, I am powerless over alcohol: once I start drinking I can't stop, or I have no control over stopping.
Congratulations!
