Day six observations
Day six observations
The bad - it's a short list:
Eating like a pig and craving sugary things.
Am feeling very, very tired, (maybe a consequence of eating too much sugar.)
First few days I was very shaky and queasy, but that's pretty much gone.
That's it. The GOOD:
I look better already! No bloodshot eyes, wrinkly/puffy face in the morning.
I don't have to look at the wreckage of the previous day's drinking...bottles and glasses all over the house, booze spilled on the floor.
No ghastly morning breath...being sober at night means I remember to brush my teeth before bed.
I am not scared to look at my email sent folder the morning after.
I haven't driven drunk to the liquor store or driven without a bottle between my legs in six days.
I haven't woken up to find the back door left wide open (Michigan winter...), scented candles burning unattended all night, half-cooked food on the stove, the oven left on, my truck sitting in the driveway with the keys in the ignition, etc.
I went to the grocery store and walked right past the liquor aisle.
I have answered my phone and talked to people after 6 pm. Sober. Usually I ignored the phone after I started drinking...or even worse, I answered it...
I don't wake up feeling guilty and dreadful.
I sang (badly) in the shower yesterday!
Now that I don't feel ghastly, I'm taking my dogs for a morning walk.
(My apologies, mods, if this is the wrong forum...I don't have anyone IRL I can say these things to.)
I hope everyone has a great and sober day.

This is the right forum. Congrats on six days. Isn't it amazing how soon we start seeing the results of our decision to quit drinking. You have a lot more ahead...improvements and challenges both.
All worth it.
All worth it.
Congrats on 6 days, Stevie, that's almost a week!
I love how the "GOOD" list outweighs the "BAD".
And I with time, the "GOOD" list will get even longer, and longer. I think it's a good idea to make this list too; it can help when you have a really crappy day (which happens to non-alcoholics and alcoholics alike). Looking at all the nice things not drinking brought can really cheer you up and feel empowering.
Have a nice sober day,
Lionne

Congrats Stevie! Your lists made me smile. I became addicted to chocolate when I quit drinking to the point of gaining 20+ pounds but I didn't see it as a bad thing because at least chocolate didn't make me make phone calls at 2 am or send emails that I shouldn't or cause me shame/guilt etc and eventually I started a regular exercise program and lost all the weight. Chocolate still RULES in my book but it's more of a once a week habit for me now.
Thanks for making me laugh today! Sang bad in the shower I sing bad every morning!
I'm happy to hear your good outweighs your bad. Keep posting and let us know how your life is going.
Best Wishes To You!
