Motorcycles ???
Last year, well I was still drinking, I went out and bought a little bike (76 Kawasaki KE 100). Were I live, the licensing place went on strike. I was able to get my beginners license for it, but not my full license for it (money grab). I didn't have insurance yet, but I had a plate with good stickers, so I taught myself how to drive it, and cruised a bit, but not a lot. Anyway, I was reading a book that said riding bikes are part of addiction. I never really saw it that way, and still don't really. I know bikes are dangerous, but I had and have no plans of riding too fast, or while intoxicated. Id like to ride in the spring, as its winter here, with proper insurance. Any thoughts on this???

I scuba dived off the coast of Australia last year and fed Tiger sharks. There was a few people there that did it every year. I think it can be sort of an addiction to danger or something.
Addiction to danger...... now that would be a very interesting subject since I honestly never thought about it. I'm what you would call "risk averse". LOL

Actually come to think of it, it wasn't a book, it was that Dr. Drew guy on that Celebrity Rehab show (can't remember which celeb he was talking to ). LOL
Sounds like a credible source to me haha I would not worry about it. Ride safe, read a book and or take a course... I dunno motorcycles can be addicting, but not in a oh I wake up with violent shakes, unable to think of anything productive or function in anyway sort of way... pick your battles---Ride Sober

I follow celebrity gossip sometimes a little more than I should and my sister (who is big into AA) told me that this was an addictive behavior on my part. She is one of those white collar motorcycle enthusiasts that likes to dress in black when on her ride. I think next time I talk about any celebrity and she comments, I'm going to tell her what Dr. Drew thinks about motorcycles.
Yea.
My Dad was 24 years sober, AA, when he died unexpectedly at age 63.
He was a member of the Fifth Chapter MC (A sober MC started by AAs) back in the 80's... they no longer exist, there was some trouble started by and with the Pagans MC down in FL... Interesting story... Anyway, he wanted his ashes spread in a particular location 3 hours away... We rode his ashes there in the saddlebags of his Harley...
Thoughts?
Live to Ride, Ride to Live.
Part of the disease, nonsense.... Part of a lifestyle that promotes alcohol and drugs, for some, but definitely not all.
It is what you make it.... Thanx for giving me pause to remember my Dad!

Hi Im Sharon. I am an Alcoholic.
I haven't had the need to pick
up a drink of "poison" since
8-11-90. For that Im truely
grateful.
At 50+ yrs. old, 20+ yrs.
sober, Remarried after a
25 yr marriage, I got my
motorcycle endorement,
tattoos and a new lease
on life.
Never did I imagine after
all those yrs. that I'd remarry
to someone with a Harley
and enjoy riding in the wind
happy joyous and free.
This could have only happened
to me with a program of
recovery in place and a
faith in a Power greater
than I guiding, protecting
and blessing me all along
the way.
Obsession....na.
A gift. Definitely.
Addicting to living life
to the upmost.

Not addiction.......passion. I do wake up in sweats, needing the wind in my face. Sometimes I need to run a whole tank of gas out to get my head right. My primary sources of transportation are motorcycles. Totaled my mileage for the year Saturday, and my numbers racked up 36,000 + miles for '10.

Anyway all my friends wear black and white. Just sayin...
Don't all alkies breath air too? I bet air's part of the addiction. -- LOL
...come to think of it, I AM pretty addicted to air.
April, chronic alcoholism is present in a million different situations, all sorts of different ppl, and it crosses every "boundary" known to man. If you're a real alcoholic, like I am, get recovered and you won't have to worry about managing triggers.
