Waiting to say its my first day..

hi, i've been on here for a while i usually go to the newcomer board, and i see alot of posts that it is day one for people, I havent made it there yet, i will forego the drinking history, and just say I really want to quit, for good, I know it's one day at a time but i hate feeling like this, drinking just to feel normal and starting in the afternoon, waking in the middle of the night with anxiety, heart palpitations, thinking I'm gonna have a stroke or heart attack, I've quit before, once for 13 yrs., and for 2 yrs., and for over a year, I think maybe I need to look into a serious program instead of just abstinence. I'm just tired of it all..I know alot of you can relate

Yes...I did need a serious structured program
so I committed myself to the AA lifestyle.
It's been working great for me since '89.

There are other ways to recovery...please check out this link

Of course...checking with your doctor is always a wise move too.

Please stay here with us....SR is a vital supplement to my recovery.

All my best

I can totally relate. Even with participation in a program, I have had a tough time remembering that I wanted to and needed to be sober. That whole one day at a time idea could be really helpful. I am on day 5, for the who-knows-what-number day 5 it is and I am finding that when a thought about booze sneeks up on me, putting it off for an hour or so while I do something else is useful. Even a few minutes works (the other night I pulled over on my way home from work to take some deep breaths before acting on the impulse to go to the liquor store).

You can do it and be happy!

Triskal,

Why wait to start feeling better? I have been sober for three years now. I did need a plan, like CarolD. You might want to see your doctor about getting a detox plan too.

SR is a great place for support and we'll be here for you.

Love,

Lenina

You can do this Triskal. Clearly you have had success stayin away from alcohol in the past. Now take the next step and join a program.

I wasted sooooo much time looking forward to getting drunk, and wasting so much of the day drinking and recovering. I'm still not where I want to be, but glad I'm not doin that now.

Good luck. You can do this. It is up to you.

I put off my quitting until it was nearly too late Triskal.
Think about making today day one.
