Day 4...better than day 3...Thanksgiving :)
Day 4...better than day 3...Thanksgiving :)
Day 4 sober! Day 2 sucked and day 3 was BRUTAL, but I did get into the Doctor yesterday evening and was put on Librium and B1-Niacin. FINALLY, got some sleep last night without shaking and cramping, but the night sweats got worse, had to change my shirt at least 5 times through the night.
However:
-My insatiable craving for alcohol seemed to taper a bit last night.
-I've asked for the support of my wife, my parents, and a good friend, and got it.
-Found support with a group of people similar to myself at A.A.
-Funny, beginning to see things through a new set of eyes. Went to Walmart last night with my wife for some Thanksgiving trimmings, and realized that after living in this town for 5 years I had never been to Walmart sober. Huh.
Feeling a little bit better. Still taking it one day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time. Not sure if I'll feel this way for long, but feeling pretty Thankful right now.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody, and God Bless.

Sounds like you are taking some fantastic steps on your road to recovery. You have seen a doctor, which is great and you have checked out a live support group and found the friendly people of AA. I am very happy for you, and applaud your decision. Keep working on sobriety and great things will happen.... I promise.
Have a great Thanksgiving yourself, and be thankful for your sobriety.

Hey Zube,
I'm on day 4 as well. This is the longest I've gone without beer in months. I fortunately don't suffer any withdrawal symptoms, unless the mental urge to drink because I feel it will make me happy counts. I can make it through the day without drinking quite easily, it's when the night comes that gets me.
Keep up the good work, 4 days is something to be proud of!

Excellent news. I hope your story will encourage others to see a doctor when the withdrawals get tough. It was *really* hard for me to admit my problem with alcohol to my doctor, but it was a huge part of my first steps in getting honest.
