4 Months Sober
4 Months Sober
Hi All,
It's been 4 months and 6 days since leaving Detox and I haven't had a drink since! I am so glad to be sober now. This is the longest in 15 years that I have gone without a drink and it gets easier daily. It seems as though it was years ago that I first posted on this forum and gained the encouragement from many of you. I thank all of you for your support direct and indirect.
With that said, I would like to share something I learned from going to Detox that I never expected. During Detox, when I first checked in, they did a physical and took a blood sample. A few days after leaving Detox, I received a phone call from the Dr there informing me that I had high blood sugar. With this news, I contacted my family doctor, and several test later, I am indeed a Type II diabetic. Had it not been for Detox, I would have not known of my condition until much damage had taken place.
Four months post alcohol, I have lost 35 pounds (beer is fattening) and my blood sugar is stable with little to no medication. Detox not only save my life from alcohol but from major future diabetic problems. I am so glad now that I toughed it out and stayed in Detox. I wanted to run out of that place after five minutes of being there. lol
Best wishes to all of you and thank you. And for those struggling; it gets easier as time goes on, don't give up, as you are worth it!
