My diary, it's really dark and dirty, but I haven't published it yet, LOL.....

The book Alcoholics Anonymous is THE most popular and longest-lived book on the subject that I've ever heard of..... I'd start with that one if you haven't already read it.

Maybe it would help to let us know what you HAVE read.

I've read all these. In order of really dark and dirty to fairly dark and dirty. They're all awesome, really and truly.

David Carr, The Night of the Gun
Dry, Augusten Burroughs
Drinking: A Love Story, Caroline Knapp
Lit, Mary Karr

My 2 favorites are:
The Los Angeles Diaries by James Brown
Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis

I just read:
How to Stay Sober in AA by Rick A (VERY VERY GOOD - not an autobiography though)

I second the Drinking a Love Story book. Wonderful read. And also, Terry, My daughters life and death struggle with alcoholism by George McGovern. Really good too.

grateful nailed it with Night of the Gun (David Carr)... if you want dark. Great book and probably the most memorable of the memoir genre... though Dry (Augusten Burroughs) is a very close second.

OTH, I haven't read narcona's suggested list, thanx, I am gonna check them out.
