My Name is Bill W

Allot of people have probably already seen this movie, I just watched it for the first time and thought it was really great. I'm not even in AA but I think it's really cool how it all started and how much I could relate to the main character

Yes....the preformances by Woods and Gardner
are very powerful.

The scene where Bill is trying to explain to his wife
Lois about his drinking....simply awesome.

I think it's about 12 minutes in...
or at least it was on my copy.

I loaned it out ...never got it back
Thanks for reminding me....

I watched it for the first time a couple moths ago. I loved it! It's bad, I know, but a friend and I laughed so hard at some parts...Like to the point of tears.

There was a movie on I think the Hallmark channel about a month ago....Lois' story....Not nearly as good. I thought it kinda dragged. Wynona Rider played Lois.

I saw the movie about 6 months ago. For an old movie it's great, and I would highly recommend it.
I've read the "big book" many times, but the movie gave me a different perspective on what Bill and others were going through back in those times. I think "back in the day" there was probably little to no support for those who recognized that they were at the end of their rope with alcohol.
There were scenes where alcoholics were gathering together and just talking in a desperate attempt to just stay away from that first drink. ( something I could definitely relate to in my early sobriety )
For me, it was a great new look on the beginnings of AA. Thanks!

There's a free download of the movie here. The quality of the video is excellent (which means it's a VERY long download). On the same page are lots of downloads of videos of the REAL Bill W. (not-so-good quality, think very old home movies--but still cool to watch).

I put it in my Netflix Queue, should get it Tuesday. I've never seen it but have heard it's good. I'm glad you guys brought that up, it gets hard to remember all of the movies and books we want to see/read!

Yeah, that's actually one of the coolest things about sobriety, for me. I LOVE to read, and I couldn't focus on reading when I was drinking.

I'm doing a lot of catching up on good books I've been missing!

It is a good movie. If you want to learn a little more, there is an excellent book out called "My Name is Bill." The author is a recovering alchoholic (although you don't know that from the book), and it really gave me a lot of insight into the traditions of AA. I would highlyl recommend it.
