Blacking out while sober
I've been sober for about 3 months now and had a few small relapses. But lately, Ive been having episodes of blacking out recent events. Like watching a movie or going to the park. People who were with me say I was there and acting fine, but I have no recallection of these thongs at all. And I hadn't been drinking! There are other issues lke not knowing if I had a conversation with someone or if it was just a dream. It happens almost every day. Has anyone else experienced anything like this after quitting drinking? And i've already set up a time to see my dr about. I'm just curious if any of you experienced anything similar.
Hey this could be pretty serious...
Just curious, this is the Psych major in me...but when you're having these black outs are you acting like yourself or someone else? Because you could be dissociating.

Anyways good that you are seeing a doctor, no i have never even heard of this before...hope it goes well for you, don't project you are not a doctor...see what they say:-)
I get dejavu of some sort almost everyday. I do so many things and I swear I have done them before, and in a lot of cases it just isn't possible. It's really irritating sometimes. It started not long after I quit drinking, and it's still going on (13 months).
I'll take this little annoyance anyday over drinking though.

Because of your profession.....you may be more aware
than most people about possible health issues.
yes...checking with your doctor is wise.

I have had "blackout" type episodes when I was sober, but I think it is more of a short term memory problem than an actual blackout.
I've never woken up outside while sober...that's for sure!

I'm not really sure if I understand what is being described in the original post. So I reckon that means for now I have not experienced it. It does remind me of cases of "I thought I already did that" or "That was 6 months ago, I thought it was 2 weeks ago?" and I believe I had some of those during my first 60 days.
Something that has continued since the first few weeks of not drinking is having memories just waltz right in and present themselves in an unusually clear fashion. I am comfortable with the notion that this is the brain readjusting to the absence of alcohol with each week that passes, like a heap of snow retreating and then you can see what was packed inside or underneath. Since I have always been slightly unusual with the memorization of detailed minutiae (not really photographic memory, but odd to most people), it hasn't been troublesome to me, just "there."
I suppose there is a large enough difference between what was first described by Luthin and what I am saying.
A year ago I remember having a conversation with someone at work and it was almost like I exited my body after a while and yet was still able to maintain the dialogue. That was back when I was still drinking though and there had been no breakage in the routine. No idea what that was, although the humorous side of me thought it could have been I couldn't stand the person and needed to get out of there any way I could.
