Red face Support, please?

Hi all, I am on day 9 free of alcohol. I am feeling a little nervous and want to drink. Please help me stay the course. I did not take my anxiety meds yesterday because I don't want to become dependent on them- I have been through benzo withdrawal in the past and it was awful. But I awoke this morning at 6:00 am. and craved a cocktail! I want to relax. I also applied for a job this morning and I am nervous about the very idea of going back to work but my unemployment runs out soon... it just hit me that at best I will be able to survive until August and then I'm up a creek. Maybe I can freelance or something... I am also dealing with loneliness. Thanks.

You can do it! When I slipped in the past it was always in the honeymoon Day 10 - 14 period. Once I got past it, it stuck. My advice is the usual, a ton of water and exercise as much as you feel comfortable with. Gotta tire your body out, then you'll sleep.

I've been a "freelance" worker for almost 20 years. It's rough in the slow spots and the downtime is when it's hardest for me to maintain my sobriety, but with a good support structure like SR or meetings or groups, it is possible to work for yourself and stay sober!

You can make it threw this!! Drinking will only cause more problems in your life. I'd keep looking for jobs to stay busy.

You can do this, decide today that "just for today" you will not drink.
As for you prescribes meds for anxiety, take as ordered to help with the anxiety and withdrawl.
You can do this.

Yes....job hunting and early sobriety and feeling alone
and all the rest can be overwhelming
Sorry this is true for you ...

When I felt alone with my desire for sobriety
I went to lots of different AA meetings.
It's a great way to meet sober people
and learn how to succeed.......

Good to see you here again

Hey sleepie

You can do this - stick close by your support group

And personally I think it's best to take your meds as directed - if you're worried about your meds, discuss it with your doctor as soon as you can and figure out another approach, but take them til then.

Good luck with the job application

D

Do anything but drink! Walk the dog. Exercise. Eat something good for you. Take a walk. Take a nap. Do anything but drink! You can make it.

I agree with Texasblind. My hardest days were always 1 week to 2 and a half.
I would be feeling great, and all of a sudden want to drink really bad. But the longer you go, the longer the period of time gets that you feel great.
Hang in there, because sober life is truly awsome once you get past the rough spots.

You need to take your med's. You will eventually get off of these, I just got off of my anxiety depression meds and I'm 8 months sober. I was also taking alot of valerian root, melatonin, and PM medication, but finally off of those for the most part.

It sucks for awhile, but after a few months it will get better if you don't drink. Look at it as boot camp or some ****.
