Cover me i AM GOING IN!

Hi I am new here and this looks like a nice place to start my decent from over a liter a day of vodka. I quit smoking ten years ago and totally replaced that addiction with vodka. I am a very functional alcoholic my partner in business never had a clue, still doesn't.

I have all my life and still do suffer from major and severe panic attacks so bad that they arrive if i take medications to prevent them. staying drunk has been the only relief. I slowed to a bit less than a liter yesterday and I am shooting for less today and expect to stop totally by mid week. I am going to visit a Dr tomorrow and come clean with her.

I canceled a very important meeting last week and hit the liquor store instead I thought I was going to die on the highway with a massive panic attack,

Reading your real life posts has giving me a positive feeling that quitting now is the best thing i can do. Thanks for listening it helps!

Visiting and being honest with your DR about your drinking is a very important first step towards recovery. Alcohol withdrawal can be deadly. Glad you are here. This is a great place for support.

please please see a doctor before you reduce further....
serious medical complications is a real risk.....

be honest with the doc in terms of amounts and duration of your drinking.
they may prescribe medication to reduce risk of seizure and your blood sugar dropping through the floor.

let us know how it goes........

It's the alcohol promise you it will get better, maybe check out the 'under the influence' excerpt link at the top of this section?

Hang in there bud!
And a doctor...not for 'anxiety' but for detox...by the time I hit the panic attack stage I was also going thru stage 2 hypertension etc -everytime- I got over another go-around. Scary stuff... something like up to 50/50 chance of heart attack or stroke and I did it dozens of times over the last couple years with no doc or idea how dangerous it.

Welcome to SR Pete. As others have said seeing a doc would be a wise move when trying to get off that amount of alcohol. You can do it if you have the desire to stop. Stick around and you will find some really great people/support here for those times when things get rough.

I'm glad you are seeing your doctor
about your drinking. That's a wise idea....

If your partner is clueless....you must not work close
to each other. I can smell that left over booze
stench and early morning shot very easily.
I could smell it on myself too....even tho
I showered 3 times before work.
Yes vodka reeks....it wafts from skin pores.

Welcome to our recovery community
and to our Alcoholism Forum....

Chronic drinking, like your level of drinking, can create various psychological problems; panic and fear is a very common result of drinking at the chronic stage.

Time and time again I've heard people share stories in the rooms (of AA) describing how, when they were drinking chronically, they felt frozen by fear, developed new fears they never had before, had a sense of panic and impeding doom. I did that too, I became afraid of so many things and easily panicked, even over minor matters.

I don't mean this as medical advice, but merely an observation: drinking may actually be causing your panic attacks!

96 hrs and still counting!

Hello my name is peter and I am an alcoholic.

Well as usual I broke all the rules. I did however consult my Doctor and she said as well to seek a 24 monitored detox solution. Well My girlfriend sat by my side with her finger on the 911 trigger. we bought all the health food to keep my blood sugar up and monitored my BP as well. I made it! and I am still alive.

I feel like a million bucks today except the headaches as you may expect and the change of appetite. I can't stand the thought of a drink and I pray I stay that way.

I am looking for a sponsor and I am eager to get to step # 2. I am very fortunate to have retained the love of the people around me and my business. well just passing through as things settle down I will return and get to know all you wonderful people. Thank you for your sound advice as I made the choice to change my life habits for ever!

Phew what a ride! Talk to you soon, I have some restored energy to burn off.

Love Peter....

Thanks for checking back with us Peter

You mention sponsorship and Steps....so I guess you
have connected with your local AA group?
That's how I remain sober and growing....

All my best to you and your loved ones ..
