advice please
I just recently fell back into serious alcoholism after going on a 5 day bender with some friends. I'm 2 days sober now, I know I'm not supposed to ask for medical help but my head feels like its in a fog, it's hard to concentrate, and I have massive feelings of anxiety, demotivation, sadness and self destruction. Do I just walk into a clinic and ask for help, and is it costly? I am somewhat afraid and embarrassed to do so, and don't really know where to go for help. Does it take several days/weeks to return back to normal? Sleep has been extremely tough these past few nights. I feel as if I'm turning into a vegetable, or a shell of a person I used to be and feel like I need to get some help to the damage I have inflicted upon myself through massive, massive boozing.
Not giving medical advice. But. sounds like I did when I was an active drunk everyday.
"turning into a vegetable, or a shell of a person I used to be"
Yep. There's a wonderful person deep inside you that's stifled. Need to get right with who you are supposed to be again. AA worked for me.

There may be a free detox in your area. Best thing to do is google "detox" or "rehab" for your area. Then call and ask if there's a free detox you can go to. We have a Salvation Army detox in this area, and I'm pretty sure it's free.
As far as your list of symptoms, I had similar ones when I stopped abruptly. I also went into DT's. Not saying you will, but just trying to emphasize that this is no joke. It's dangerous and very damaging to your body, mind, spirit.
Wishing you the best.

If you're going thru a really bad time with withdrawal, you can always go to your local hospital's ER for help. They can't turn you away. You can worry about the bill later, but just go there for help now (if you need it).

Hi anon505
Here's a good link about Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome. Always consult a MD when detoxing from alcohol IMO its the wise thing to do.
Well done on 2 days and please keep active in recovery.

Like Pagekeeper said alcohol withdraw can be very dangerous. I went into detox a month ago and even with the meds they gave me my blood pressure was crazy high. could of had a stoke.... your local AA chapter will know of low cost or free detox facilities.
Forward we go...side by side-Rest In Peace

Welcome back to SR.
Sorry to know you returned to drinking
and are in the middle of de toxing...
You could go to an AA meeting ...ask them
what resources are available where you live.
You could call your local health department
they might have information about free clinics.
I don't know where you live...but perhaps these
will help if you are either in the US or UK
National Drug and Alcohol Treatment Referral Routing Service available at
