This sounds like the crux of your problem IMO. Keep looking for someone that you can identify with who has been where you are and found a solution.

For a long time I could not find a person with "exactly" my experience. Then I learned to identify with those who drank like I did, suffered like I did and failed like I did.

Then it was just a matter of finding one of these who found a way out of their predicament.
