Still struggling here.
Had 10 days in August.
Scared to quit, and scared of what will happen if I don't quit.

You made it to ten days..so, you know you can do it.

Beak it down...how about just for today you won't drink?

Good to see you on the board.

No drinking at all. First time trying to quit. I am at about 14 months and thankfully the good people on this site have led me to believe that I am not going to be that one person who can have 1 or 2 drinks every six months. To me it is like why bother if that is all I can have. So far so good. This site and reading has been my only recovery tools after a 8 day rehab and 2 months of IOP. I think it all contributed to my sobriety. My circle of friends including my husband are all alcohol abusers if not alcoholics. I just wait for them to join me or they may never quit. It is up to them. Good topic and you may get some to get honest with themselves.

Ugh, I was too. 15 days and no alcohol at all. Might not seem like much but it's the longest I've gone since I was 20. I still drink non-alcoholic beer sometimes... doesn't trigger me. Or at least it hasn't so far.

Hi Everyone.......

I too returned to drinking after my decision to quit.
I had many false starts on my way to solid sobriety.

Then I read a book..."Under The Influence" by Milam & Ketcham
Here are some excerpts + info

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...influence.html

I re connected to God and AA
I've not had a drink since 4-25-89.

Yes...we can and do recover...

Robbo,

I am curious as to why this is important to you. Does it matter who is or is not drinking? Have you had enough or do you need another ride on the merry-go-round?

This is about YOU, not the rest of the board, IMHO.

Well I haven't drank for a while but it seems like everyday I get that urge that I really want to drink.

Haven't drunk since I quit in February. At that time, abstinence was my goal (and currently still is).

However, knowing what I know now, if I had to do it again, I probably would have first tried moderation (eg a "two drink limit rule" that my best friend has successfully used for more than two decades).

Having discovered how much healthier I've become by cutting out the booze out altogether - I'd be crazy to re-introduce alcohol in my system. I've also discovered a few friends - not alcoholics - who have also quit drinking completely for health reasons (for better health - not because of failing health) including my old boss of ten years ago.
