25th Wedding Anniversary

Today is my 25th wedding anniversary.

We have had a good run... Thankfully my downward spiral was only in the last 2-3 years and I was not abusive, just isolating.... which, of course, is bad enough...

My intervention took place a year ago on our 24th... I began recovery a week later.

It's been a tough year... as my wife puts it, that's a gross understatement. She didn't know about the pills until that day a year ago... followed 2 months in rehab, lots of consequences...

I don't want our marriage and our 25th anniv. defined by my recovery... we go back a long way... there is so much good... but in some ways, it can't be helped. It would have been nice if it all hadn't happened... a nice story book anniversary would be nice... but I guess that only happens in storybooks...

We go away for a couple of days this weekend. It'll be nice. My recovery has progressed nicely and it no longer has to define who I am and more importantly, we are.

Mark

Congratulations on both fronts. Your marriage as well as your recovery are doing better than most which in my book is sort of storybook. So enjoy both!! I was always told it is the problems/obstacles we face and overcome which make us stronger. I read Micheal J Fox's first book Lucky Man he says he became such a better person after developing his illness that he would not give it back if he could. I think alcoholism is one of those things that if we can overcome it our life can be better than if we never had it. Hope you enjoy your weekend celebrating 25 years of marriage as well as 1 year of sobriety.

Congratulations on 25 years. (Our's will be 22 on Saturday.) Hopefully you two can get past the "tough year" and remember the highlights too. Don't forget to look to the future like you did 25 years ago.

Congratulations to you and your wife.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th this year also.

We survived my downward spiral six years ago...and progressed onward, even surviving and thriving despite my recent slip.

The first two years of my recovery were full of highs and lows. Our relationship completely changed.

Wishing you and your wife years of health and happiness.

Thanx anew...

It has been an adventure this last year, that's for sure... I think the worst s over... still a ways to go...

As difficult as this recovery thing has been on the relationship... things could have been so much worse had I continued on the road I was on.

Congrats to you.

That's excellent Cubile. Congratulations on the 25 years. These days that is quite the accomplishment and deserves recognition.
