Before there was AA there was a alcoholism recovery movement know as the
Washingtonian Movement. They tried marketing themselves in an aggressive manor and ended up making so many enemies that they fell apart. That explains why Traditions 6,10,11 & 12 deal with discretion.

Bookstores ... Hazelton and Amazon come first to my mind.

I usually would not correct this, but if someone does decide to look for some books, it is Hazelden.

There's a committee for public institutions (like schools, hospitals, etc.) called CP/CPI. These are the folks responsible for making AA available in these settings. In accordance with our traditions, AA practices attraction rather than promotion, and in many cases it is up to a hospital to reach out to the local AA population... if it's a rural area, there may be no CP/CPI committee, or knowledge of that branch of the fellowship. Bring it up at a group conscience and see if your group's GSR can bring it up on the district level, then the area level... make some waves!

Alcoholism is the elephant in the living room.........everyone sees it but no one will acknowledge it.

I found my local AA group (one and only) somewhat helpful, but not because of the program.....................no, I'm at 79 days, and I did it pretty much on my own...............but because of the PEOPLE I met..sme were aqauintances before, and now have become much more.

There is a definite bond between people who have battled and overcome or are still battling this demon......and to me THAT was the value of AA.

To be fair, I have only gone to 2 different groups as I live in a very rural area.
