Hello everyone..
I'm kind of new here.. I've posted here before but I slipped up so many times since then... I've been drunk once since last October (on Halloween) and have had some glasses of wine (not getting drunk at all). I'm 25 and currently am living back at home with a father who drinks.. I've been enrolled at school with a change of major and have enjoyed being a homebody. I've picked up some new hobbies such as motorcycle riding and writing. I know what's right for me and that's to remain sober.. I haven't had a cigarette in a year (as of 06/07/2008) and I believe that has contributed to my good grades in school and more being alert to my surroundings.

Permanent sounds like a great idea... I don't want to be like my old man who comes home, pops one open and isn't really social.. He's a old grouch.. I don't want to become that person... I know I can do this.. I'm remaining very positive. I know as long as I can keep myself busy with activities, such as school or work, I'll be better off.

1.) Keep coming back, focus on recovery FIRST...!
2.) Consider not using the word 'slip' anymore, it only serves to minimize/excuse the act of knowingly, willingly, consciously making the CHOICE to drink/use.

Welcome..
A lot of people quit drinking to head off any future problems, honestly it seems like the easiest and smartest thing to do! I'm proud of you for recognizing the potential of where you could find yourself down the road, I really admire the fact that you're here and being so thoughtful about your future.
Congrats on the smokes too.. they're tough to quit!!

Thank you for that, Tommy. I too hate the 'slip' dealio.. The only thing I've ever slipped on was the ice out of my drink, it doesn't slip down my throat!
