made it 2 weeks, now time for a month
Well, I made it two weeks sober. I was shooting for at least a month right off the bat, but that might have been too lofty. On Saturday, I got what AA calls that "fever" where I was just going to drink, no ifs ands or buts about it. It's those times where I almost get possessed by a desire to drink that I need to work on getting through. But thats OK. I figure now I'll double the time and shoot for a month this time. Then double the time again next time to 2 months, etc. I just have to make sobriety a priority. Like after a couple weeks, I'll feel OK, but in reality the body and mind haven't barely had any time to recover at all, they probably need at least a year or two to fully and completely heal.
Anyways, just figured I'd check in. Hope everyone has a great day.

Absolutely CONGRATS on 2 weeks!
But you know what? Don't be in such a hurry to rush it. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. It's GREAT to have a goal of not drinking for a month... but why don't you break it down into not drinking TODAY? Just today. That's all. And then tomorrow you can worry about "just today" again. Before you know it you'll have those additional two weeks.

Matt...
What are you doing to help you stay healthy and sober?
I too had false starts on my way to solid recovery.
2 weeks is a good start.
Use that as a base for moving forward.
Glad to see you again...

Matt, congrats on 2 weeks! Today is my 2 weeks also. YEAH! I agree with tryingsohard, day to day is what works for me, give it a shot. Quitting is rough and you dont want to set yourself up. I wasnt sure I would make it this far, 14 days, it blows my mind. Keep with it, if you fall, get back up, give it a go again, work with today, either way worrying or not tomorow will come...and you can worry about that when it comes. I wish you all the best.
w00t! Deuce weeks feels great, no? I feel like a parent telling the age of their child.
"Here's my little sobriety. Isn't it just adorable at two weeks?? Just imagine how big it'll be at six months?!"
However, i recommend doing as Trying suggested. Go for the days alone. Eventually, that'll stretch into something you'll look at and wonder where all the time went. Otherwise, you'll probably have too lofty of a goal and feel worse if you don't reach it. Day-by-day is always attainable and still admirable. Congrats again and keep on keepin' on. Cheers.

Thanks everyone for taking time to reply. This board is such a safe-haven, I'm very glad it's here.
Hmm. I'm a college student, so during the week studying takes up most of the time. I'll get in a few workouts which helps me rebound and feel great. Friday I'll just pass out and rest. Then Sat I can just lounge about, read, play golf, whatever. But then Saturday evening comes, I'll get bored, and cravings will come..that's my achillees heel area. I need to find some more hobbies activities and stuff to do in my spare time other than drinking..

Hey, Matt! Welcome to SR.
On Saturdays....it may come down to staying sober one Moment at a time. You can do this. How awesome that you are doing it while you are still young.
Look around the forum, you'll see many of us (me included) who wish they could have gotten their act together and enjoyed a longer sober life. Learn from us!

Let's see what I can come up with for Sat. night activities..
some might not suit you...hope some will...
An AA meeting with young members...often a dance is after
in some areas Also...many go to coffee after a meeting.
How about bowling? or skating? or the gym?
Movies? Ask a non drinking friend to go along
Want to learn how to ...play chess or bridge?
Or sing or a musical instrument?
Coffee shops especially those with book stores
are a good place to be.
And you do like to read too.
Just thinking out loud Matt...

Those are all great ideas. That's the thing, there's all these wonderful activities to do that are so much more beneficial and rewarding than binge drinking, that it's almost foolish to choose drinking over those things.
Stay positive Matt you can do it! When you get thoughts about drinking try and think about something else....You can always think about how you felt yesterday, when you wasn't thinking about today.....and all will be well...:ghug3
