I feel like a new person since being sober
I feel like a new person since being sober
I really do feel totally different. My life is coming together quite well. I am happy, despite still being in a tough spot due to my past drinking choices.
However, since I quit drinking I have came across this sense of serene well being. Sure I still have problems and stress, but I don't let it get to me anymore. I think self consciously I have handed these things over to what some would say a higher power; things I cannot control or change today. This does not mean I am not making progress towards my future goals, but I don't let things in the future or things I cannot change ruin my happiness today. <- I had a very hard time with this after my first dwi, and did not stay sober.
It seems people around me are so high strung. I was at the doctors office yesterday and the receptionist was adding my new insurance information and it was taking a bit, and shes like oh jeez this takes so long sometimes, I know it can be hard. I said "Mam, something like this do not bother me at all. I have many more important things to worry or get upset about." Life seems so easy to manage. I made life so much more difficult by choosing to drink, even though everyone around me saw it ruining my life.
I can truly say my life was unmanageable when drinking. I had forgotten what it was like to truly live, and be happy. I can now enjoy a moment for what it is, and interact with people as I really am. A nice intelligent guy, with a good heart. Oh and fun to be around....
Thank you everyone for sharing YOUR experience, strength, and hope with me on a daily basis. It helps. -Paul (79 days, 10 hours, 21 minutes sober)

Great thread MagicMan!
It's good to see you doing well. I cannot believe how complicated I made my life when I was drinking. And, you're right, things are much more easy to deal with now.

Love this thread.
Couldn't agree more. It's kind of amazing, realizing how pushy, uptight and rushed I was when I couldn't wait to drink. I think how I feel now is how I thought drinking would allow me to feel, only I was putting the cart before the horse.
