Soooooo many songs relate to recovery in some way if you interpret the words in that fashion.

Hotel California reminds me of rehab.
Ordinary World (Duran Duran) precisely relates to recovery for me.

Lyin' Eyes, With or Without You... these are just some songs I perform, but nearly every song I listen to now (really intently listen to) has some relation to recovery.

Great topic - it's my passion.

"Running up that Hill" by Kate Bush... Or the Placebo cover.

"And if I only could,
I'd Make a deal with God,
And get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill..
."

"Little Earthquakes" by Tori Amos : "give me life, give me pain, give me myself again"

The frist and last stanza of this song remind me of my love affair then recovery from alcohol:

Melissa Etheridge Ruins lyrics

Don't try to call
There are some bridges that burn
Beyond recognition beyond repair
Don't say you've changed
There are some forces that turn
Beyond recollection beyond my stare
When I feel the cold in the dark
I know you're there
Long ago I was a woman in pain
A woman in need
I ran to you
Long ago I did not understand
You were making me bleed
I ran to you
When I feel the cold in the dark
I know what you do
I will crawl through my past
Over stones blood and glass
In the ruins
Reaching under the fence
As I try to make sense
In the ruins
I know your heart has held its own fear
It's perfectly clear
What they did to you
In my heart it's the screaming I hear
I won't let them come near
Since my love knew you
When I feel the cold in the dark
I remember you
I will crawl through my past
Over stones blood and glass
In the ruins
Reaching under the fence
As I try to make sense
In the ruins
Night after night
I am carving it out
I will carry it down to the waterside
Night after night
I am hearing the sound
Of wings that come beating
I will not hide
When I feel the cold in the dark
I will know why
I will crawl through my past
Over stones blood and glass
In the ruins
Reaching under the fence
As I try to make sense
In the ruins
But if I am to heal
I must first learn to feel
In the ruins
I will crawl

YouTube - Default, Count on me

I know that life ain't always good to you.
I've seen exactly what it’s put you through
Thrown you around and turned you upside down and so you
You got to thinking there was no way out
You started sinking and it pulled you down
It may be tough you've got to get back up
Because you know that life ain't over yet
I'm here for you so don't forget
You can count on me
Cause’ I will carry you till you carry on
Anytime you need someone
Somebody strong to lean on
Well you can count on me
To hold you till that healing is done
And every time you fall apart
Well you can hide here in my arms
And you can count on me
To hold you till that feeling is gone

I wonder why nobody's waiting on you
I'd like to be the one to pull you through your darkest times
I'd love to be the light that finds you
I see a silver lining on your cloud
I'll pick you up whenever you fall down
Just take my hand and I will help you stand
Because you know that life ain't over yet
I'm here for you so don't forget
You can count on me
Cause’ I will carry you till you carry on
Anytime you need someone
Somebody strong to lean on
Well you can count on me to hold you till the healing is done
And every time you fall apart you can hide here in my arms
And you can count on me to hold you till that feeling is
Gone so you can live today
Say so long to yesterday
Keep on counting on me to carry you till you carry on
Carry on

You know that life ain’t over yet
I’m here for you so don’t forget
You can count on me cause I will carry you till you carry on
Anytime you need someone
Somebody strong to lean on
Well you can count on me to hold you till that healing is done
And every time you fall apart
You can hide here in my arms
And you can count on me to hold you till that feeling is gone
Remember life ain’t over yet
I’m here for you so don’t forget
That you can count on me to hold you till that feeling is gone
Remember life ain’t over yet
I’m here for you so don’t forget
That you can count on me to hold you till that feeling is gone

YouTube - Sixx AM - "Pray For Me" NEW

"Pray For Me"

[Verse 1]
She lights a candle, but she doesn't know why.
She wants to save me, but i'm barely alive.
My soul is thirsty. I just wanna get high.
Make her go away.

[Pre-Chorus]
Now i'm hitting the wall and she begs me to quit,
And she drags me to church but i'm scared to commit,
And i'm loosing my mind 'cause she hides all my ****.
She wont go away.

[Chorus]
And all I ask of her is
Pray for me,
'Cause I don't want to
Pray for me,
If you love me.
Cross your heart and hope that I wont die before the best day of my life.
Just pray for me tonight.

[Verse 2]
I dragged myself out of the bed that she made,
And I escape her in a black motercade
She's pushing bibles and a clear bill of health.
I can't make her go away.

[Pre-Chorus]
Now i'm hitting the wall and she begs me to quit,
And she drags me to church but i'm scared to commit,
And i'm loosing my mind 'cause she hides all my ****.
She wont go away.

[Chorus]
And all I ask of her is
Pray for me,
'Cause I don't want to
Pray for me,
If you love me.
Cross your heart and hope that I don't die before the best day of my life.
Just pray for me tonight.

[Electric Solo]

[Final Pre-Chorus and Chorus Combo]
Now i'm hitting the wall and she begs me to quit,
And she drags me to church but i'm scared to commit,
And i'm loosing my mind 'cause she hides all my ****.
And all I ask of her is
Pray for me,
I don't want to
Pray for me,
If you love me.
Cross your heart and hope that I don't die before the best day of my life.
(Pray for me tonight)
Pray for me
(Pray for me tonight)
Pray for me
(Pray for me tonight)
Pray for me
(Pray for me tonight)
Pray for me
(Pray for me to- )

As for movies I recommend Rain in my Heart a BBC documentary that will show you rock bottom, without dying.

Rosie, you're all right, you wear my ring
When you hold me tight, Rosie, that's my thing
When you turn out the light I got to hand it to me
Looks like it's me and you again tonight, Rosie.
Well, I guess I might have known from the
start she'd come for a star
But I told my imagination not to run too far
Of all the times that I've been burned,
by now you'd think I'd learn
That it's who you look like, not who you are.

(Jackson Browne - Rosie)

I love 28 days. We watched it every single day while I was in detox over a year ago. Mind you they put it on for us EVERY DAY but I like that movie. It has a lot of parts that got me chuckling too.

Heh i didnt even know the Verve reformed after 10 yrs and made a new album "Forth" till the other day. The 3rd track "Rather Be" has had a profound affect on me. Two lines in fact... "...but id rather be here than be anywhere, is there anywhere better than here"
I think about that like, i wont be any place if i booze myself out of it! :-)

The last song in "Meet the Robinsons" kills me every time. I cry like a big baby.

YouTube - Little Wonders (from Meet the Robinsons) by Rob Thomas

"These Small Hours" by Rob Thomas (aka "These Little Wonders"):

Let it go,
Let it roll right off your shoulder
Don't you know
The hardest part is over
Let it in,
Let your clarity define you
In the end
We will only just remember how it feels

Our lives are made
In these small hours
These little wonders,
These twists & turns of fate
Time falls away,
But these small hours,
These small hours still remain

Let it slide,
Let your troubles fall behind you
Let it shine
Until you feel it all around you
And i don't mind
If it's me you need to turn to
We'll get by,
It's the heart that really matters in the end

Our lives are made
In these small hours
These little wonders,
These twists & turns of fate
Time falls away,
But these small hours,
These small hours still remain

All of my regret
Will wash away somehow
But I cannot forget
The way i feel right now

In these small hours
These little wonders
These twists & turns of fate
These twists & turns of fate
Time falls away but these small hours
These small hours, still remain,
Still remain
These little wonders
These twists & turns of fate
Time falls away
But these small hours
These little wonders still remain
