I did it! I did it! I did it!
My friend just called to say she'd be 15 minutes late -- my first thought was, "Great, that'll give me time for a quick drink before she gets here." My next thought was, "Not today, dummy."

Well, I made it to day four and screwed up. Day one again today. Although I did drink over the w/e, it was very minimal compared to what I'd normally drink. However, it did happen and I'm starting over AGAIN.

Taz - not enough, apparently. I'll be in Laramie either Wed. or Thurs. and will go to AA. I'm reading the book, "The Road Less Traveled" and have started a new exercise program to help motivate me to not drink. Weight loss is probably more important to me that it should be, but because it is so high on my priority list, it's my biggest motivation not to drink. I'm spending tons of time outdoors working in my yard, staying out of the house and away from the fridge and the liquor store.
Hey nanita - I did the same thing. Got to day four and slipped. Back to day 2 now. I have been to 7 meetings in the last 6 days and plan on going to one meeting every day for the forseeable future. I was told to talk to the older sober members who shared during the meetings and get phone numbers so I'd have someone to talk to. Tonight I really wanted to pick up and they were so supportive and gave me some strategies like "just keep putting off that first drink" and validation about how unpleasant it is.
THe other thing that I really got tonight is that AA is not just about giving up booze, it's a programme of spiritual and personal growth.
I'm not at the point where I want to be sober more than anything, but I want it quite a lot so I'm trying. Besides, I wasn't doing anything with my evenings before except watching tv, drinking and passing out so I might as well go to meetings and drink tea.
Also, the Rational Recovery online program was really helpful to me as it helped me see how the urge to drink arises and gives some really good strategies about deaing with it.

Thanks, TigerLili. I'm going to AA in Laramie tomorrow (it's 62 miles from home). I'm also having lunch with one of my best friends - she's married to a recovered alcoholic/addict who is very involved with AA. It's always good for me to spend time with her. Started my exercise program yesterday and will be buying lots more plants to put in the ground when I go to Laramie. Doing my darndest to stay very busy!!
