You do understand you can DIE from detoxing off alcohol, hope the "other obligations" are worth it. Seek medical help.

I did it at home but I don't recommend it. I didn't know at the time I could have died from it. What got me through were honey and sugar for the shakes, lots of fluids, small frequent meals, vitamins and having someone with me who knew what I was doing in case I needed intervention. Lots of phone calls to AA people and meetings. Whole process took about a week as I recall. Was the worst thing I ever went through and I pray that I will never feel the need to repeat it.

Hugs,
Kellye

Best way to deal with withdrawal symptoms is not to drink. You need help.

I am thankful I went to a doctor and for the first time ever told the whole truth about my drinking. He told me that I needed medical detox or it could very well kill me.

Home detox can result in death with out seeing a doctor first.

I would consume massive amounts of water/gatorade. Take a multi-vitamin twice a day, try to sleep and watch movies. If it gets bad don't hesitate going to the ER. They will give you IV fluids, ativan and other good stuff. I've done it like a dozen times.

Welcome to SR!

I did not see your post....Sorry.

Yes...it's always best to see a doctor before abruptly quitting.
This does not always mean hospitalization is required.
The initial De Tox is usually 3 or 4 days.

Here is a link to our personal experiences

You will see there are many variables
and that is why it's best to have a medical opinion.

Please come back and let us know how you are doing.
