LOL, Yes, but it changes, even after all of these years. Currently, I am on a sliced garlic pickle treat sometime between 100AM and 300AM; I also need a big swig of the pickle juice before returning to bed. It's wacko, but fun!
It is quite normal for someone who has been a heavy drinker to crave sweets when they quit. The carbs in the alcohol that we drank kept our blood sugars high. Our bodies got used to it and when we stop drinking our bodies still want the higher blood sugar. They do go away after a while. Unfortunately, in the meantime it is not uncommon for people to gain some weight. It even talks about sweets and the craving for them on page 133 of the Big Book. I remember this page because I am a lover of chocolate. The darker the chocolate the better.
One of the many doctors who had the opportunity of reading this book in manuscript form told us the use of sweets was often helpful, of course depending upon a doctor's advice. He thought all alcoholics should constantly have chocolate available for its quick energy value at times of fatigue. He added that occasionally in the night a vague craving arose which would be satisfied by candy. Many of us have noticed a tendency to eat sweets and have found this practice beneficial.
