Hi again all!! Im STILL sober :-)

HI guys,

some of you may remember me. I found my way to AA (and then this forum) a while back.

Im happy to say that my username is now out of date. Instead of being irishman32, i am now Irishman34, as i have had 2 and a half years of sobriety now, one day at a time.

I could write forever about how it has changed my life, but suffice to say, that on the i am 2 and a half years sober, i will fly home from the south of france, where i am in the middle of relocating to, to visit a fmaily who will all be happy to see me.

Sobriety is a truely amazing and precious thing, and i am honoured to be sober today.
Thanks to all who supported me at the begining, and hopefull i will drop in a little more often :-)

roger h.

Hi IrishMan! Welcome back, and congratulations on your 2 1/2 years. My Father's Father was from Clonakilty; he kept a good job all through the depression and died an alcoholic death. In my drinking days, I'd get hold of some Old Bushmill's or Guiness Stout whenever I could. "I'm getting in touch with my Irish heritage", I'd tell myself. Alcoholics are strange people, I guess.

IrishMan32...

hi all.

well, when i found this forum i was one sorry state. I had just quit, just found AA, and was in that melanco(ho)lic bubble that probably many people found themselves in. I was delighted to be stopped drinking - i didnt even want to think about it in case it triggrered something inside my head. But i was also really really mixed up. I posted here and got smilies posted in return.

I came back a year or so later to say hi, and people remembered me - which i thought was amazing!! Anyhow, im on another return now. And my username is well out of date. I WAS IrishMan32, but i will soon be IrishMan36. In the past four years, I have taken medication for panic attacks, been to councilors, doctors, spiritual people - Ive started and finished an MSc in Computing and Design, Ive travelled, met a fantastic girl...and had the honesty and sense of logic to end it when i figured it wasnt for me. I have been to birthday parties, weddings, funerals, interviews and concerts. I have become a keen amateur photographer, I have written a weekly column in a newspaper. I have buried my uncle gabriel whom i was very close to. I have had nightmares, sweet dreams and even the odd sleepless night. I have done so many things but one thing that i havent done up until tonight is take a drink :-) Nor have i felt the need to.

Thats right, mission impossible has been achieved up until tonight. No Guinness, no Gin, no shots of absurd mixes enough to strip paint.

So thats me...alive, well, sober..and very grateful.

If anyone reads this and remembers me, then i want to say a big thanks to you.

Sorry for the long message, I'll sign off now...by using my real name for the first time...why wouldnt I??..Im proud of who i am.

A very grateful,
Roger
