Hi

I'm glad I found this forum again. Couldnt sleep. This site is wonderful! I am trying to quit and need some practical advice on how and what to do. I have the option of going into treatment but I really think I can do it if I find enough support and keep myself busy.

Thanks
Jodi

Hi Jodi.
Welcome to our SR Alcoholism Forum!

This thread is full of practical advice
do read and ask questions if you want.

It's a wise move to talk honestly wih a
dovtor before you abruptlly quit.
He/she will then decide what is the
best course to safely follow.

De toxing from alcohol is unpleasant at
best...and can be very dangerous at worst.

My opinion is that one should use every
means available to find a healthy life.

Sobriety Rocks!

Support Groups

Does anyone know how to find support groups not related to AA in the Seattle Washington area?

Carol

Thank you so much for your reply. I am so thankful for this site. I have made it part of recovery and find so much rich and useful information here. In the past few days I have noticed a lightness and a strength in my resolve to live a more joyful life without Alcohol. I didnt use Alcohol for a very long time, more than 18 years to be exact. I went through a devastating divorce a while back and wound up emotional and spritualy bankrupt. I have been learning the reason for my emptyness. I concentrated so much on the lives of others and their wellbeing that for most of my life I ignored my own health.

That is changing..........I feel that some sort of miricle is taking place in my heart and mind. The fog is lifting and fear is dissapating. I used to have a drink every now and then or a few glasses of wine with girlfriends, laughing and talking but it was never the reason we got together. I am finding that I don't need it to enjoy all the little things I used to take pleasure in.

Coming back to life!!!!!!!

Thanks again.............

Treatment

Thanks Rusty,

I am going to call the treatment center and find out if I can attend on an out patient basis. The place is called Lakeside Milan here in Seattle. The main thrust of their program deals treating Alcohol Addiction on a physical and mental basis. They do use AA as a follow up care. I believe I am going to attend the program for the information. I know I can use all the help that is out there. These past few weeks I have been availing myself of all the help and information I can find on the subject along with inspiration from others. This site has really been part of the catalyst for the change in my thinking over this past week. For the first time in a long time I feel a sense of hope and excitement. I even find myself looking forward to the day. That might have something to do with not drinking though......................
