AA convention, Rhode Island
Hi Everyone,
There is an AA convention in Rhode Island this weekend and I am lucky to be going!
A bunch of us from my home group are going to spend Saturday there. I am also goung to bring my lovely lady as there is also Alanon.
I am just so excited I can't stand it.
Anyhow, don't know if anyone is close enough but I thought I would mention it.

I can't do that one, but do look forward to my first AA convention, I have heard they are a blast and inspirational beyond beleif, think about how disappointed the bar tenders must be when one is going on though, tips are never very large from sober folks ordering root beer on the rocks!!!

Hey, I'm in Newport every Saturday afternoon, night and Sunday morning -- taking care of my mom. I'll see if I can stop in, though.
You going, Best?
Who else is going? Would love to meet some more SR folks!
Look forward to meeting you, perhaps, Groucho! Depends if I can get someone to watch my mom so I can get away a bit....
Shalom!
edit; OMG! I *think* I know the convention chair!

Went to the convention yesterday, all I can say is wow!
I'm floating on a pink cloud today.
The thing that was really moving for me was the sobriety countdown. I had heard of these but had never witnessed one. They ask everyone who has not had a drink today to stand up. Then, if you have less than 30 days sit down. More than 30 days but less than 90 days sit down. then 1 year, then 2 then three and so on. You must understand, there were 800 people there. The last gentleman standing had 58 years of sobriety.
I printed a little pic of my avatar and stuck it in my tag, knowing that anyone who visits sr on a regular basis would recognize it. Sadly no-one introduced themselves, but who knows, maybe I’ll start a fad of wearing your avatar to these things.
All of the talks and the speaker stories are available on CD and also can be downloaded on MP3 from
http://glennkaudiotapes.com/
I highly recommend Jack C. from last years RI convention (cd02220), also last nights speaker was excellent, but I don’t think he is on the site yet.
Anyhow, I had a ball, and if anyone here ever gets the chance to go to a convention anywhere, I highly recommend it.
