doubts over meeting
If you are an alcoholic or a person for whom drinking has become a problem, it would be better than good to go. How are you ever going to find out if the answers you need are there if you never even show up? There must be something telling you that it might possibly be a good idea to attend a meeting. Listen to that something.
Going to a meeting will not kill you - your head will not explode and you won't fall off the face of the earth.

As others have said, you have nothing to loose except maybe hangovers, shame, guilt, self hatred, self pity, and self centerdness.
I have never heard of any one loosing by going to AA. I have not bitten a new comer in several weeks!

Maya,
I won't sugar coat it. Going to your first meeting by yourself sucks. But if you think about it, the only part that sucks is the anticipation of driving there and walking your butt through the door.
Once you walk in, people are real "huggy" which is different but pretty cool for alkys like us. You'll learn so much, but most importantly you'll learn that you don't have to do this alone anymore. COMPLETE STRANGERS are willing to take you by the hand and give you the hope you can't give yourself right now.
So what's worse...a little pre-meeting anxiety or the anxiety of losing your job from alcohol (what I'm dealing with as we speak)?
I'll share a comment that a veteran made at a meeting, "The cowards aren't the ones that admit they have a problem and show up at meetings, the cowards are the ones too afraid to admit defeat."
