Hello
For the past decade or so I have used alcohol, prescription drugs & anything with codeine in it to suppress my appetite. Yes I purposely set out to to harm my body. I can't carry on anymore. What to do? Where to start? I want to stop but I can't. Food makes me feel ill. Actually most things I partake of these days makes me feel ill. I had it more or less under control as in "my secret" but that is slipping away since my divorce.
Welcome to SR Super Trooper, you have come to a fantastic site with a lot of support and advice to offer. Every experience shared or advice given may not apply to you or your needs, but one of the most important things you will discover here is that you are far from alone.
I am an alcoholic and once I realized I could not, not stop drinking, I got proffesional help and put myself into de-tox to get a bit of sobriety and knowledge under my belt and was taught that AA was the best long term sobriety maintenance program going, they did say it was not for everyone, but that anyone who wanted to stay sober would need some type of long term maintenace program.
From what you have said about yourself you have made the first and the hardest step towards recovery, which is admitting you have a problem and you by yourself can not control it. In my opinion you need to speak to an addiction specialist to guide you into the proper de-tox/rehab program for you.
The sooner you get started the quicker you will be on the road to recovery. Just a little thing to keep in mind, when you first go into de-tox if you are like me the whole world will be like a thick fog for at least 2-3 days, maybe more, while in this fog many things will not make sense and your disease will be fighting for control and have thoughts racing through your mind that you need to get out of there. Hang in there... once that fog starts to lift it will be the beginning of a beautiful new life. I am not saying it will be easy or start out as a bed of roses, but trust me when I say that my worst day being sober is great compared to my best day drunk.
