I feel like I am suppose to know these things but I don’t (grin)

What is the significance of the Camel in recovery? I see it in many recovery themes.

thanks

i got 11 years
never clicked into a camel

what recovery themes?
it's not on the big book jacket, or grapevine
maybve it's just something used by some groups where you are

i go to grrenwood group
nice room
and
there are whales on the wall
made of wood
with someone's name and anniversary date going back up to 30 years
3 ofd the 4 walls are covered with them
but
it's not an Aa thing

one of the group's members was a fisherman
who came up with it
aND
IUT CARRIED ON

I'VE EVEN MADE A FEW WHALES TO GIVE TO GROUP MEMBERS
ALL USE THE SAME TEMPLATE

The camel is a symbol of recovery and of survival against great odds. Here's one resource:

The camel each day goes twice to his knees.
He picks up his load with the greatest of ease.
He walks through the day with his head held high.
And stays for that day, completely dry.

Dr. Bob would explain prayer by telling how the camels in a caravan would kneel down
in the evening, and the men would unload their burdens. In the morning, they would kneel down again, and the men would put the burdens back on. “It's the same with prayer,” Dr. Bob said. “We get on our knees to unload at night. And in the morning when we get on our knees again, God gives us just the load we are able to carry for that day.”

© 1980, Dr. Bob and the Good Oldtimers, page 229

I have a camel in my car that rides with me everyday. I've had it in my car since my sponsor gave it to me on my 30 day birthday. It's always a reminder that I have the power within me to unload my own burdens and I can get through one more day sober.

I first heard of the camel last year when I was asked to buy some camel keychains at our Innergroup for someone. I saw what Chy had posted. I also was told that a camel can go for 24 hours without a drink and so can we!

Camel theme

The camel can go 24 hours a day without a drink. It also means One Day at A Time.
