My friend Bill....aka **** Oreilly
What a lucky girl I am.
I have known Bill (Aka ****) for almost 2 years now, having met right here on SR. I was intrigued by his writing style, his humor and his humility as he shared his life and stuggles in his many postings here.
We have become close recovery pals, my sharing my pain of loss of my husband to relapse and his in dealing with life and relationships. He's AA, I'm Al-anon...we share our sides of our individual fellowships in order to help the other find acceptance and peace.
We've never met in person. We talk on the phone alot, he knows my son, We share photos (Sometimes he photoshop's my face on a strippers body,,what a gift!).
And then last night......I said I wished I could hear his share. I really did, but I live in Florida..kinda long ride to the Brooklyn Group in NYC.
He calls me on the way to the meeting, asks if I want him to call me on his cell just before, and I can listen via cell phone. Wow..would he rally do that?
He did that.
Just after he identified himself for his share, he said "The reason I have my cell phone open here is so my friend in Florida can hear my story...her name is Christina"........Next things I hear is 20 people saying "Hi, Christina!".
I can never describe how touched I was that he introduced me. It made me feel special, important. That our friendship means something to him. Just as his does to me.
He spoke, like a man with total dedication to his recovery, like a man who had regrets of the past, but with hope for the future. I knew, as he was sharing, that there was somebody in that room who was indentifying with his story, and who may have gotten just a little bit of hope from him, for he has come to know peace today. He has come to know "Howard" and he certainly has come to know alot of people who absoultely adore him. He lives the 12 steps, he helps others do the same. He is my inspiration that the alcoholics I love may one day find sobriety. I need that in my life. I need people like Bill. Im proud to say, that I am A Friend of Bill.
Thanks, Bill, for sharing your recovery with me last night, and every day.
Love you!

What a wonderful gift!!!
I've been fortunate enough to have met Bill in person at the Round Up. I can attest, he is just as wonderful in person as he is in your message, Christina. (But he gets mad when you notice his good points, so, don't tell him I am saying this...I'm not sure I want one of those photoshop tricks he does!!! )
Seriously, Bill went out of his way for all of us on the Round Up! He met us at the bus; took us around *his* city, and gave us the insider's tour. He took us to a meeting; on a boat tour of the harbor and we had lunch at an historic site where Washington said farwell to the troops - Faunce's Tavern.
He has a sense of humor that keeps you on your toes, and a heart made of solid gold!
I too, am proud to know Bill and to be a FOB.
I'm so glad to hear this story. Thanks for sharing it with us. :nose:
Shalom!

Yea, Bill is *not* what he might want us to think he is. He is a sweet, emotional, tender child of god.
Now, with that being said,,,let me tell you about the time he didnt want to drink alone so he sat outside and poured a cap full of whiskey and fed it to a snail......no wonder why they leave a trail of slime........

Bill is a special, most important person in my recovery. I highly recommend to all of ya to get your own recovering alcoholic friend. It doesnt hurt that he is so darn cute, too..but, ehem,,,,we are strictly platonic.
