drinkin dreams

yup, they happen. its been a while since ive had one. i was tryin to remember when the last one i had was and it seems like its been about a year, but my memory sucks.
i had one last night and it was a rip snortin drunk.snapped out of it about 5 a.m. drenched in sweat and terrified- i couldnt remember what i did that night, didnt know how i ended up in my recliner, or anything. it took me a while to wake up a little more- i was seriously feeling like i had drank-but remembered i was out in the shop, then came in for some dinner and a movie(the minions movie- weird that id have a drinking dream after fallin asleep watchin that one!),which i was in my recliner for.
it was a little difficult to shake this one off and accept it for what it was- just a dream. ive actually felt hungover today.
as with the other drinking dreams, the giggles were gone. it was nothing but disgusting gloom, dispair, and agony.
im very blessed and greatful it was just a dream and great to remember its still out there waiting for me to rest on my laurels

greatful to know im powerless over what i dream, but not powerless over my dreams becoming reality.

We drank for a long time , a lot of if was traumatising , not just for people around us , bound to have the odd dream , kinda like a glimpse back .
Last one I had I swear I could feel the scotch burning my throat for a couple of minutes after waking ... scary stuff .

Its good scary stuff , because its scary stuff .

I'm glad it was just a dream Tom and
nothing to be ashamed or guilty of.

Having our program of recovery to
guide us and help us in all areas of
our life we can avoid making an awful
mistake of drinking.

This too shall pass which mean that
dream you had has passed and it was
only a dream and that's its.

Now stop eating all that spicy food
because it will give you a nightmare. lol

Hey my buddy Tom.....

Here are a few more thoughts to ponder
about your drinking dream and hope you
had a better night sleep last night.

Drunk dreams.......

Being drunk in a dream may show that you feel
irresponsible or out-of-control in waking life. It
could represent careless behavior, a lack of awareness,
or not thinking clearly. Being intoxicated could
directly reflect a problem with drinking too much,

.....(which I know isn't true because you are
living a recovery life my friend).....

or indirectly mean something else about your
day-to-day life. If you used to drink alcohol to relax,
or still do, it might mean that you are feeling stressed
or over-worked. If drinking means celebration to
you, it might mean you are going through a major
life event.

You may also need a break or some relaxation.

And dark chocolate before bedtime will make you dream in technicolor.

It’s just a dream, projected by your AV/disease, don’t worry, it will ease and become inconsequential, in time. At one year and three months, I rarely have these dreams, or any AV thoughts whilst awake, so don’t worry, Tom, as time marches on and the brain heals, it will get better.

good to see ya decided not to have your account deleted and hope ya decide ya dont have to fend off the AAers, too.
as time marches on, and your brain heals, youll get better, too.

Tomsteve, I find your post offensive, but hey ho, I’m sober for life, so I shall not let your post rattle me, nor report it. At 15 months sober, neuro plasticity has worked its chemical/biological/spiritual magic, so I’m already healed.

I only posted because I was worried about you. Because you were worrying and posting about what was, in reality, just an inconsequential, drinking dream. I’ve no idea how long it is since you put down the drink; but I just want to reassure you that, within the first year or so, the brain heals, and the drinking dreams will dissipate. Plus, even if the dreams resurface beyond that timescale, they’re nothing to worry about, please believe me. Take care.

I'm thankful for drinking dreams. MANY times over, in these dreams, I'm fully aware of my sobriety, AA principals, and so forth........yet take the damn drink. It's a good reminder to someone like me that I can be on guard to the best of my ability but there can very easily come a time where all my human defenses are not available, and/or not strong enough, and/or completely forgotten. My defense can't come from me.......not if I expect to live long in recovery.

that said, they still scare the crap out of me in that they remind me of just how powerless I can be / am - at certain times.

The above is why I posted, Tom. Certainly sounded as though you were worried to me, and as you said: ‘terrifying’ to you, ‘difficult to shake off’, and also ‘feeling hungover’. That is why I was concerned for you, but if I misunderstood and it wasn’t worrying to you, or terrifying to you, as you’ve said above, with hindsight, then that’s really great news indeed.

In my experience dreams are just that, dreams, just sub-conscious brain habituated networks firing off, troublesome, but as you proved, surmountable. You’re clearly doing great Tom, thinking through these thoughts and processes. You previously asked me whether I knew how long you’ve been sober and I confess, I don’t, but I’d love to know, Tom, if you don’t mind my asking?

Hi Ken33xx, very interesting link regarding dreams, thank you. Our sub-conscious/conscious brains, certainly appear to be amazing organs!

Thanks, Ken, I'll have to look at this.

I have often wondered what makes these things happen.

I have had them on and off for many years.

It's always comforting to wake up sober.
